Discover the diversity of Georgia on this 20-day hiking and cultural adventure through the heart of the Caucasus. This journey combines spectacular mountain trails, remote medieval villages, ancient monasteries, UNESCO World Heritage Sites, wine country experiences, and authentic encounters with local communities. From the dramatic peaks of Kazbegi and the untouched wilderness of Tusheti to the legendary towers of Svaneti and the charming vineyards of Kakheti, this tour offers the perfect balance of active exploration and cultural discovery.

Day 1 – Arrival in Tbilisi

• Welcome to Georgia. Upon arrival at Tbilisi International Airport, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel in the capital. Depending on your arrival time, enjoy a relaxed introduction to Tbilisi, one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. IN the evening enjoy a short sightseeing tour of Historical Tbilisi. Wander through the atmospheric streets of the Old Town, where colorful balconies, historic churches, modern architecture, and vibrant cafés create a fascinating blend of East and West.
• Overnight in Tbilisi.

Day 2 – Tbilisi and Mtskheta

• On this day, you’ll visit two capitals of Georgia: the ancient one and the modern one. Mtskheta is the former capital city of Georgia. It’s also called Second Jerusalem because of the many Christian relics preserved in the city, including Jesus Christ's tunic. The first stop is Jvari monastery (VI c.), proudly standing on the mountain, overlooking the city and its environs. Another stop will be Svetitskhoveli Cathedral (XI c.), which is significant for many things. Most importantly, Christ’s tunic is buried under the cathedral. It is also the burial place of Georgian kings, and Saint Andrew's holy parts are preserved there.
• The day continues in Tbilisi with a nice evening walk in the old streets of the modern capital. We’ll start the tour atMetekhi Cathedral (XIII c.) and the Isani neighbourhood, which was a royal residence in the Middle Ages. It’s a perfect place to enjoy magnificent views of the old city. Then we’ll take a cable car to the mother fortress of Tbilisi, Narikala (VI c.), one of the first constructions in the city. From Narikala Fortress, you can see the whole city. After we’ll take a walk down to see the Sulphur Bath district and unique mosque, where Shia and Sunni Muslims pray together, we'll slowly move on towards the Shardeni and other small, cozy streets of the old city. On the way, we’ll see Sioni Cathedral (XI c.), Anchiskhati Basilica (VI c.), Gabriadze puppet theater, etc. Later, take a walk on the most central square of the city – Freedom square and see the monument of Saint George.  Rustaveli Avenue with its XIX c. buildings, museums, parliament, cozy cafes where we will have a beautiful reception with wine and Georgian hospitality will be next on our list. 

Day 3 – The Georgian Military Highway and Kazbegi

• The Georgian Military Highway will take you towards the Caucasus Mountains. The first stop is Ananuri fortress(XIV c.). It is built on the conjoining place of two mountain rivers, overlooking the emerald-colored, Jinvali water basin dipped into the mountains.
• Lots of mysterious legends about those towers are still preserved by our ancestors. The road will take you towards the mountains, and on the way to Kazbegi, you will stop in the ski resort of Gudauri, where one can enjoy beautiful views of the mountains or enjoy skiing, snowboarding, or paragliding (depending on the season). After Gudauri, continue to Stepantsminda. Overnight there. 

Day 4 – Hiking to Gergeti Trinity Church and the glacier of Kazbegi

• Your first major hike takes you to the famous Gergeti Trinity Church, perched high above the valley against the backdrop of Mount Kazbek. The trail winds through traditional mountain scenery, offering ever-expanding views of glaciers, rivers, and snow-capped peaks. Standing beside this iconic church, surrounded by some of the highest mountains in Georgia, is an unforgettable experience and one of the defining moments of any visit to the Caucasus.
• Take the enough food and supplies with you because you are going to hike the mountain of Kazegi. The highest peak of the Eastern Georgia, the bride of the gorge, the Urskhokhi mountain as local tribal people used to call it. Your final stop on this day after a long time of hiking will be a mountain hotel called Altihut. Overnight there. 

Day 5 – Hiking The mount Kazbegi 

• Experience one of the most rewarding hikes in the Caucasus Mountains on this full-day trekking adventure from Altihut to the spectacular Kazbegi Glacier. 
• The hike begins at Altihut, where breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Kazbek, the Gergeti Trinity Church, and the surrounding mountain valleys provide an inspiring start to the day. From here, the trail gradually ascends through rugged alpine terrain, following mountain paths used by trekkers and climbers heading deeper into Kazbegi National Park.
• As you continue higher into the mountains, the scenery becomes increasingly dramatic. Snow-covered peaks, glacial rivers, rocky ridges, and vast open landscapes create an unforgettable hiking experience. Along the route, enjoy spectacular views of Mount Kazbek, Georgia's third-highest mountain and one of the most recognizable landmarks in the entire Caucasus region.
• The trail eventually reaches the Kazbegi Glacier, a remarkable natural wonder descending from the upper slopes of Mount Kazbek. Surrounded by towering cliffs and high-altitude wilderness, the glacier offers a unique opportunity to experience the raw beauty of Georgia's mountain environment. Take time to rest, photograph the stunning scenery, and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of this remote alpine setting.
• Begin the return hike to Altihut. The descent provides new perspectives over the Gergeti Valley and the surrounding mountain ranges, making the journey back just as rewarding as the ascent. Overnight in Altihut.

Day 6 – Relaxing Day in Stephantsminda with a Lunch in Tsdo

• This day is dedicated to having a more relaxed phase of the day. After breakfast visit a monastery on the Georgian-Russian boder of Larsi. See from distance one of the busiest borders in Georgia and taste local wines made by the monks. Later, explore one of the most remote and unique villages in Georgia, called Tsdo. In Tsdo there is an amazing family, who live with simple, traditional way of life. They have cows and lifestock and prepare ,most of the food themselves. Participate in cooking class of Georgian traditional food. Khinkali is most famous dish in Georgia. This meat dumpling is becoming famous all over the world nowadays. The cooking process of Khinkali is fun and entertaining. Try milking the cows and making the local cheeses. Spend time in the family, hearing the local stories, legends from the family members themselves. After fullfilling day return to Stephanstminda and an overnight there.

Day 7 – Into the Highlands of Khevsureti

• Discover one of Georgia's most remote and spectacular mountain regions on this full-day Khevsureti tour from Kazbegi. Travel through breathtaking Caucasus landscapes to the medieval fortress village of Shatili, famous for its ancient stone towers, dramatic mountain setting, and rich history. From Stephanstminda take 4x4 cars to the the village of Shatili. After a long road take see your hosts because here you will be staying at a local household with a family as their guest and you will be able to get to know the customs and rules of Khevsuretian people, participate in cooking and have dinner with them in the evening. Enjoy the evening. Overnight in Shatili. 

Day 8 – Hiking to the Fortress Villages of Shatili and Mutso

• Explore the wild beauty of Khevsureti on a full-day hiking adventure between the legendary fortress villages of Shatili and Mutso. Following ancient mountain trails used for centuries by local highlanders, this trek offers a unique opportunity to experience one of the most remote and spectacular regions of Georgia entirely on foot.
• The route takes you through the stunning Arghuni Valley, passing mountain rivers, alpine meadows, medieval towers, and breathtaking Caucasus landscapes. Along the way, discover the rich history of Khevsureti and the remarkable architecture of its fortified settlements.
• Upon reaching Mutso Fortress, explore one of Georgia's most impressive medieval strongholds, dramatically perched above the valley with panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. After time to explore and enjoy the scenery, return along the trail or choose an optional horse-riding experience for part of the route, following traditional paths once used by local shepherds and travelers. Overnight in Shatili at a family house.

Day 9 – From Mountain Strongholds to Kakheti Wine Country

• Depart the fortress village of Shatili and journey south through the changing landscapes of eastern Georgia. Leaving behind the dramatic peaks of the Greater Caucasus, travel toward the remote village of Udabno, located on the edge of the vast Gareja semi-desert. Upon arrival, enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of this unique region and spectacular sunset views over the colorful hills and open landscapes that make the area one of Georgia's most unusual destinations.
• Overnight in Udabno.

Day 10 – Davit Gareja Hike

• Today is dedicated entirely to hiking in the Gareja desert. From Udabno, follow scenic trails across arid hills and dramatic rock formations toward the ancient David Gareja Monastery Complex, located near the border with Azerbaijan. The hike offers wide panoramic views, unique semi-desert landscapes, and a deep sense of isolation and history.
• Explore the cave monasteries carved into the cliffs, walk through ancient hermit cells, and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of one of Georgia’s most important spiritual sites. After time for exploration and photography, hike back along the same scenic route to Udabno for an overnight stay.

Day 11 – Vashlovani National Park & Abandoned Soviet Airbase

• Travel to Dedoplistskaro, the gateway to Vashlovani National Park. Spend the day exploring one of Georgia’s most unique natural regions, known for its semi-arid landscapes, canyons, badlands, and rare wildlife. Visit dramatic viewpoints and remote areas of the park, where the terrain feels closer to Central Asia than the Caucasus.
• During the exploration, visit an abandoned Soviet-era military airbase, where empty runways and decaying structures remain as a striking reminder of the region’s past. Return to Dedoplistskaro in the evening. Stay in the guesthouse. Cook dinner and get to rest.

Day 12 – Sighnaghi and Bodbe Visit 

• We begin our day by leaving Dedoplistskaro behind and exploring more famous and well know towns in Kakheti area which will be quite refreshing after a few days spent in the wilderness of Udabno and Vashlovani National Park. The road will take us to Sighnaghi, also called “The Town of Love.” Everyone knows that the reason behind the nickname of this town is a wedding hall operating 24 hours a day. We’ll take a walk through the streets of the little town. Discover the longest defensive wall in Georgia and enjoy unforgettable views of the Alazani Valley while having lunch on the terrace of one of the local restaurants. The next stop is Bodbe Nunnery, the burial place of the enlightener of Georgia, Saint Nino. Famous among pilgrims and for its location. 
• Travel to Telavi. This is an administrative center and a largest town of Kakheti area. have a short walk in the center of Telavi. Overnight there. 

Day 13 - Crossing Abano Pass into Tusheti

• Today's journey is an adventure in itself. The road over Abano Pass is considered one of the most spectacular mountain routes in the world. As the road climbs above the clouds and descends into the remote region of Tusheti, travelers are rewarded with breathtaking panoramas and a profound sense of isolation. Abano pass is the highest road pass in the Caucasus and the drive itself is windy and rough. 
• By evening, arrive in Omalo, the historic heart of Tusheti.

Day 14 – Hiking Through Omalo,  Shenako 

• Today, explore the authentic mountain villages of Tusheti, beginning with a visit to the beautiful St. George Church in Shenako, one of the region’s most scenic settlements. Continue with a hike to the ruins of Diklo Fortress, located near the border and offering spectacular views of the surrounding Caucasus Mountains.
• Later, visit the fortified village of Dartlo, renowned for its medieval stone towers and traditional architecture. From here, hike to the remote village of Kvavlo and discover several nearby settlements that preserve the unique culture and lifestyle of Tusheti. Throughout the day, enjoy traditional Tushetian cuisine and warm local hospitality. For those seeking an additional adventure, an optional horse-riding experience can be arranged in the afternoon.

Day 15 – Full-Day Hiking in the Tushetian Highlands

Spend the day immersed in the pristine wilderness of Tusheti. Hiking through alpine meadows, mountain passes, and remote valleys offers endless opportunities to experience the extraordinary beauty of the Greater Caucasus. Encounters with shepherds, traditional villages, and untouched landscapes make this one of the highlights of the tour.

Day 16 – Return to Tbilisi 

After breakfast, begin the journey back to Tbilisi. Reflect on three weeks of extraordinary experiences, from remote mountain villages and ancient fortresses to world-class hiking trails and authentic cultural encounters. Depart Georgia with lasting memories of one of Europe's most diverse and rewarding travel destinations.

Day 17 - Tbilisi – Borjomi – Vardzia

Depart Tbilisi and travel through central Georgia toward the historic region of Samtskhe-Javakheti. Stop in Borjomi to enjoy a short walk through the famous national park before continuing to Vardzia. Upon arrival, visit the remarkable 12th-century cave monastery carved into the cliffs above the Mtkvari River. Explore its tunnels, churches, and hidden chambers while learning about the legacy of Queen Tamar.

Overnight in Vardzia.

Day 18 – Vardzia – Tmogvi Fortress – Khertvisi – Vardzia

Begin the day with a scenic hike to the ruins of Tmogvi Fortress, dramatically positioned above a deep canyon. The trail offers spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and volcanic landscapes. Continue exploring the area before visiting Khertvisi Fortress, one of the oldest fortresses in Georgia. Return to Vardzia in the evening.

Overnight in Vardzia.

Day 19 – Vardzia – Javakheti Highlands – Paravani Lake

Travel onto the vast volcanic plateau of Javakheti, a region known for its high-altitude lakes, grasslands, and unique wildlife. Hike along the shores of Lake Paravani, the largest lake in Georgia, surrounded by wide-open landscapes and mountain views. Continue through remote villages and discover the peaceful atmosphere that makes this region a paradise for nature lovers and photographers.

Overnight in Ninotsminda or nearby guesthouse.

Day 20 – Madatapa Lake – Bugdasheni Lake – Javakheti Protected Areas

Spend the day hiking through the Javakheti Protected Areas, one of Georgia's most important wildlife habitats. Explore the beautiful lakes of Madatapa and Bugdasheni, famous for migratory birds, volcanic scenery, and untouched nature. The gentle hiking trails provide excellent opportunities to enjoy the region's unique ecosystem and vast open landscapes.

Overnight in Akhalkalaki or Ninotsminda.

Day 21 – Javakheti – Dashbashi Canyon – Tbilisi

Begin the journey back to Tbilisi with a stop at Dashbashi Canyon, one of Georgia's newest natural attractions. Enjoy a scenic walk overlooking dramatic cliffs, waterfalls, and the canyon landscape before continuing to the capital.

Arrive in Tbilisi in the evening.
